Lee Aucott is Head of Materials Science and Technology at UK Fusion Energy Ltd, where he leads the development of materials and manufacturing methods for the STEPFusion programme – an ambitious endeavour to construct a UK prototype fusion energy plant, targeting operations by 2040. Prior to joining the UK fusion programme, Lee worked in the defence and aerospace sectors, developing advanced materials and manufacturing solutions for use in harsh environments. He received his PhD in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Leicester in 2015. Born in Nuneaton, Warwickshire, Lee began his career as a mechanical engineering apprentice at Dunlop Aerospace Braking Systems in Coventry.
