Javier Munguia

Associate Professor, Mechanical, Materials and Process Engineering, School of Engineering, University of Warwick

Dr Munguia is an Associate Professor in the School of Engineering at the University of Warwick, where he serves as Course Manager for Mechanical Engineering and leads a number of interdisciplinary Master's-level programmes and initiatives. These include Warwick Concrete Printing (WCP) and Micro-Tech, an initiative focused on mechanical micro-teaching factories and advanced manufacturing education.

With over 15 years of experience in Additive Manufacturing (3D Printing), CAD/CAM, design, industrial engineering and manufacturing engineering, Dr Munguia's research focuses on the development and application of advanced design and manufacturing technologies. His work spans the design, analysis and optimisation of engineered products and manufacturing systems, with particular interests in parametric and generative design, topology optimisation, and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM).His research also encompasses the design and manufacture of medical devices, materials characterisation and mechanical testing, including fatigue and long-cycle testing.

In addition, he has extensive experience in the design and development of specialised machinery, experimental test benches and purpose-built 3D printing systems, bridging the gap between computational design, experimental research and practical manufacturing applications.
