Fauke Zella is Chair and lead Professor at the University of Edinburgh. She is a leading authority in engineering design, known for pioneering work on integrating AI into design workflows. Her expertise is in Human-Robot Interaction, Human-Machine Interaction, AI, ethics and digital methods. Her career spans academic research and industrial innovation, with a focus on human-centred AI, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and shaping Industry 5.0 solutions. She’s authored key studies on how AI can augment (not replace) designer expertise and has worked with major engineering teams to embed smart tooling across the product lifecycle.
