Professor David Baglee is a distinguished academic and the current Head of the School of Computer Science and Engineering at the University of Sunderland. With a career spanning over two decades in higher education, he has established himself as a leading authority in Advanced Maintenance Strategy and industrial asset management. David’s expertise is centered on the intersection of engineering and digital innovation. His research primarily explores Industry 4.0 and 5.0 technologies, including Predictive Maintenance, condition monitoring and Big Data to anticipate equipment failure. David’s other research includes the use of Virtual and Augmented Reality (VR/AR) to enhance maintenance training and manufacturing efficiency. Beyond his leadership at Sunderland, Professor Baglee maintains a strong international presence and has held Visiting Professor roles at Luleå University of Technology in Sweden and the University of Maryland, USA. He has authored over 180 peer-reviewed publications and is widely recognised for helping Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) bridge the "technology gap," ensuring they remain competitive in an increasingly automated global market.
