Bob Bhatti

Head of Mechanical Engineering & Design, Formula 1

Bob Bhatti is a mechanical engineer with over 30 years' experience spanning motorsport, automotive, and industrial products engineering. As Head of Mechanical Engineering and Design at Formula 1, he has led mechanical, electronics, and software engineering groups of circa 60 engineers with multimillion-pound annual budgets, delivering trackside products to on-car systems across the full product lifecycle, from concept through to race deployment, in a fast, dynamic, agile environment where risk-averse decision-making is critical. This is blended with R&D activities, Innovation, Business Development, Technical Strategy, Business Continuity, Governance and Leadership.

He is currently spearheading the technical role of Future Race Operations (FRO), one of the most ambitious programmes F1 has undertaken: a global transformation of freight logistics from air to sea across multiple equipment sets, underpinned by new technical governance frameworks as part of F1's drive to Net Zero by 2030.

His earlier engineering career spans automotive systems, industrial products, working within a leading London Design Consultancy developing FMCG’s; giving him full product-lifecycle experience beyond motorsport. He holds UK patents from a self-founded product design venture and sits on Kingston University's Engineering Facility Industrial Consultive Committee, where he also received an Honorary Doctorate of Engineering in 2025 for his contribution to motorsport engineering and support for the next generation of engineers.
